Subchapter 9.8 – Complete Emergency Scenario: Communication Failure with Weather

You are now 10 kilometers southwest of Zurich, Flight Level 90. The weather has cleared. You can see the aerodrome ahead and below. You descend to 2,000 feet and request landing by squawking 7700 (emergency code) if you wish to trigger emergency services, or you continue a normal descent if the situation is under control.

You descend visually and join the circuit. At 1,000 feet on downwind, you attempt the radio once more. You hear: "Unknown aircraft, Zurich Tower, traffic approaching Runway 28, continue downwind, next call cleared to land."

Your radio is back! You respond: "Zurich Tower, HB-CDA, roger, downwind Runway 28, transmitted in blind due to radio failure earlier en route, squawk 7600."

Tower responds: "HB-CDA, understood, radio failure declared, continue downwind, cleared to land Runway 28."
