One more important note: at some AFIS aerodromes in Europe, the operator may also provide traffic information. For example:
AFIS: "D-EFGH, we have traffic, a Piper Cherokee on base runway 27."
This is advisory, not controlling. You have the information, but you decide your own action. You might slow down to let the Cherokee land, or you might request a go-around. The operator is not separating you; the operator is giving you information to make your own safe decision.
