Part 4: Joining the Circuit

Reporting Overhead

When flying overhead join, you will descend from your initial altitude and pass over the aerodrome threshold or runway. At this point, report overhead and acknowledge your descent clearance.

Overhead Join /strong>

Borton Tower · F-ABCD

PILOT: Borton Tower, F-ABCD, overhead one thousand five hundred feet, descending.
ATC F-ABCD, ROGER. Descend to one thousand feet, join right hand downwind runway zero-six.
PILOT: Descend one thousand, right hand downwind zero-six, F-ABCD.
ATC: F-ABCD, ROGER.
You are now cleared to descend and join the downwind leg. You will roll the aircraft toward the downwind leg and begin your descent to circuit altitude (usually 1000 ft AAL for light aircraft).
