Touch-and-Go Procedure

A touch-and-go is a landing and immediate take-off without stopping. Commonly used in training, it allows you to execute multiple landings in one flight.

To request a touch-and-go, include it in your joining instructions or mention it early: "F-ABCD, request touch-and-go." ATC will either approve or request a full-stop landing if traffic is busy.

If approved, you will receive landing clearance as usual. Upon touchdown, you will smoothly advance the throttle, maintain directional control, and execute a normal take-off while remaining in the visual circuit.

After taking off, continue in the circuit pattern immediately. You do not need to contact Approach again; you remain on Tower frequency.

PILOT: F-ABCD, request touch-and-go.

ATC F-ABCD, ROGER. Request full stop at this time. Runway zero-six, continue approach, number three.

PILOT: ROGER, full stop, F-ABCD. --- [If touch-and-go had been approved:]

ATC: F-ABCD, ROGER, touch-and-go approved, runway zero-six, number three, continue approach.

PILOT: Touch-and-go, runway zero-six, F-ABCD.

In this example, ATC requested a full-stop landing instead, which is common when the circuit is full. If approved, the pilot would execute the landing, advance to takeoff power immediately, and climb away to rejoin the circuit.
