Vacating the Runway

After you have landed, you must vacate the runway to clear it for other traffic. The runway is a critical resource, and every moment you occupy it blocks arrivals and departures. ATC will instruct you when to turn off and where to taxi. Some larger aerodromes have high-speed taxiway exits; others have simple 90-degree turnoffs.

When you hear "taxi to the end, report runway vacated" or "exit left at taxiway Bravo," you must execute this instruction immediately. Once you are completely off the runway (all wheels past the runway edge line), you report to ATC that the runway is vacated.
