Flight Plans by Radio

To file a flight plan by radio during flight, contact the appropriate ATS facility and request to file a flight plan. The facility will either accept the flight plan directly, or will direct you to call Flight Service or the AIS on a designated frequency.

When filing by radio, transmit each element clearly and wait for the facility to acknowledge receipt before moving to the next element. The facility will read back key elements (especially the route and destination) to confirm they have understood correctly.

"OE-CMV, request to file flight plan."

The facility will respond:

"OE-CMV, go ahead with your flight plan."

You then transmit your flight plan, element by element:

"Aircraft Cessna one-seven-two, small category. Departure Linz, LOWL, departure zero-eight-thirty UTC. Cruising speed one-zero-five knots. Cruising flight level nine thousand five hundred. Route direct Budweis, direct Prague. Destination Prague, LKPR. Time enroute two hours fifteen minutes. Alternate Karlovy Vary, LKKV."

The facility will read back the flight plan (or the critical elements) to you:

"OE-CMV, I have your flight plan as Cessna one-seven-two from Linz to Prague, two hours fifteen minutes, alternate Karlovy Vary. Is this correct?"

"Affirmative, OE-CMV."

"OE-CMV, flight plan filed. Good day."
