PILOT: Borton Approach, F-ABCD, Seneca VFR from Walden, two thousand five hundred feet, eight miles west of the control zone boundary, for landing at Borton, request overhead join, information India.

ATC F-ABCD, Borton Approach. Descend to one thousand five hundred feet, proceed to overhead Borton, join right hand downwind runway zero-six, QNH one zero one two.

PILOT: Descend one thousand five hundred, overhead Borton right hand downwind zero-six, QNH one zero one two, F-ABCD.

In this example, the pilot states position (eight miles west), altitude (2500 ft), destination (Borton), intentions (landing, overhead join), and ATIS code (India). ATC then clears descent and specifies the joining method. The pilot reads back the clearance with callsign.
