Post-Takeoff Reports: Climbing Away
You have lifted off the runway and are climbing. You are still in the control zone, still on the tower frequency, and still under tower control. The tower needs to know:
- That you have left the runway safely
- Your current altitude
- Your position in relation to the CTR /li>
The standard post-takeoff report includes:
- Aircraft callsign /strong>
- "Leaving" or "airborne" – indicates departure from the runway
- Current altitude – stated as a single altitude (e.g., "five hundred feet")
- Direction and reference point – where you are in relation to a known point or the aerodrome
The tower will acknowledge this report and may issue further instructions, such as a heading change ("turn left heading 180 degrees") or a climb to a specific altitude, or they will clear you to change frequency.
