Part 3: Sequencing and Traffic Information

When ATC gives you traffic information and you see the aircraft, you must report "traffic in sight." This tells ATC you have identified the target and will maintain visual separation from it. This is a vital safety report.

The phrase is simple: "[Callsign], traffic in sight" or "[Callsign], visual with number [position], [type if known]."

Do not report traffic in sight if you have not actually located the aircraft. If ATC asks, and you cannot see it, say: "[Callsign], negative contact, request vectors." ATC will then give you headings to help you find it or will issue different instructions.
