VOLMET – Meteorological Information for Aircraft in Flight:
VOLMET is a continuous broadcast of meteorological information for aerodromes along flight routes. It is transmitted on HF, VHF, and ACARS and provides regular updates so that pilots can monitor weather conditions at their destination and alternate aerodromes during flight.
VOLMET frequencies are published in the AIP for each state. In European airspace, you can request VOLMET from Flight Information Service (FIS) on certain VHF frequencies, or you can listen to VOLMET broadcasts on dedicated frequencies.
VOLMET provides:
  • Routine meteorological information METAR
  • Significant weather forecasts SIGMET and AIRMET
  • Aerodrome information and runway in use
  • Trend forecasts (TREND)
For VFR pilots, VOLMET is optional but recommended when planning cross-country flights with multiple legs or when weather is changeable.
