Across Europe, the vast majority of small general aviation aerodromes are uncontrolled. Austria has many. Germany has many. France, Belgium, Switzerland, and every other ICAO member state relies on uncontrolled fields to support light aviation. Unlike major aerodromes with towers, approach control, and ground movement services, uncontrolled aerodromes offer no mandatory control or clearances. Instead, they operate on trust, good airmanship, and communication discipline.
