Subchapter 9.3 – Minimum Fuel Declarations
When to declare minimum fuel:
- You encounter stronger-than-forecast headwinds that reduce ground speed.
- You are vectored off course or held for traffic, consuming fuel unexpectedly.
- An engine is running rough, increasing fuel consumption.
- You discover a fuel leak or crossfeed issue and have lost more fuel than planned.
- Weather forces a longer approach or go-around, consuming reserves.
How to declare minimum fuel:
"Zurich Approach, HB-CDA, minimum fuel."
ATC will immediately:
- Note your fuel status in their records.
- Prioritize your approach and landing.
- Minimize vectoring and holding.
- Clear airways ahead of you.
- Ensure emergency services are on standby.
