Subchapter 9.3 – Minimum Fuel Declarations
When to declare minimum fuel:
You encounter stronger-than-forecast headwinds that reduce ground speed.
You are vectored off course or held for traffic, consuming fuel unexpectedly.
An engine is running rough, increasing fuel consumption.
You discover a fuel leak or crossfeed issue and have lost more fuel than planned.
Weather forces a longer approach or go-around, consuming reserves.
How to declare minimum fuel:
Address
ATC
on your current
frequency
. Example:
"Zurich Approach, HB-CDA, minimum fuel."
ATC
will immediately:
Note your fuel status in their records.
Prioritize your approach and landing.
Minimize vectoring and holding.
Clear airways ahead of you.
Ensure emergency services are on standby.
