Subchapter 9.5 – Weather Deviations and Route Changes

Example: "Zurich Approach, HB-CDA, currently Flight Level 100, moderate to severe turbulence and light icing, unable to continue, request Flight Level 150."

ATC will respond: "HB-CDA, approved, climb to Flight Level 150, report level."

You climb and report: "Zurich Approach, HB-CDA, level Flight Level 150."

If the new altitude still has weather, request again: "Zurich Approach, HB-CDA, still moderate turbulence at Flight Level 150, request Flight Level 180."

ATC may approve, or may advise that Flight Level 180 also has weather. In that case, accept the best available altitude or consider a diversion to an alternate aerodrome.
