Subchapter 10.4 – Approach and Arrival

PHASE 11: DESCENT AND VECTORING

Timeline: T+1:15 (75 minutes after takeoff)
You are now descending through FL 095. Munich Approach is vectoring you toward the instrument approach procedure for runway 08 right.

Descent Through Flight Level 090

Munich Approach · OE-DMS

PILOT: OE-DMS, leaving flight level zero-nine-zero.
APPROACH: OE-DMS, roger. Turn right heading one-two-zero, descend to three-thousand feet, report leaving flight level zero-eight-zero.
PILOT: Right heading one-two-zero, descend to three-thousand feet, report leaving zero-eight-zero, OE-DMS.
Analysis: You reported leaving FL 090. ATC issued a turn (heading 120), a new descent to 3,000 feet, and a reporting requirement. You read back the heading, the altitude, and the reporting requirement.
Common Error: Some pilots read back "turn right heading one-two-zero" instead of just "right heading one-two-zero." The word "turn" is implicit. Be concise in readbacks.
