Subchapter 10.5 – Common Readback Errors and Exam Traps

The Trap: ATC reports traffic. You are under pressure and say "traffic in sight" even though you haven't found the aircraft yet. This is a safety risk and could cause a loss of separation.

ATC: "OE-DMS, traffic at two o'clock, three miles, climbing." Wrong response: "Traffic in sight" (if you haven't actually seen it) Correct response: "Negative contact, OE-DMS" (if you don't see it) or "OE-DMS, traffic in sight" (only if you do see it)

Rule: Always tell the truth about traffic sightings. If you don't see it, say so immediately. ATC will provide vectors or further separation.
