Flight Plans by Radio

To amend your flight plan during flight, contact the appropriate ATS facility and request to amend your flight plan. You then transmit only the elements that have changed. For example, if you are changing your destination:

"OE-CMV, request to amend flight plan. Change destination from Prague to Brno."

The facility will acknowledge and ask for any additional information:

"OE-CMV, destination changed to Brno. New time enroute?"

"Estimated one hour fifteen minutes."

"OE-CMV, amended flight plan noted. Continue as planned."

Amendments are common when weather requires a change of destination, or when you decide to extend your flight to a different aerodrome.

PILOT: Linz Information, OE-CMV, request to file a flight plan for subsequent flight.

LINZ: OE-CMV, go ahead with your flight plan.

PILOT: Aircraft Cessna one-seven-two, small. Departure Linz, LOWL, off-block time zero-nine-zero zero UTC Cruising speed one-one-zero knots. Cruising level five thousand feet. Route direct Salzburg, direct Munich. Destination Munich, EDDM. Time enroute one hour fifty minutes. Alternate Ingolstadt, EDDN. Remarks, single VHF radio, transponder equipped.

LINZ: OE-CMV, I read your flight plan as Cessna from Linz to Munich, fifty minutes [Note: facility is abbreviating], alternate Ingolstadt. Is this correct?

PILOT: Affirmative, time enroute is one hour fifty minutes.

LINZ: OE-CMV, I have one hour fifty minutes. Your flight plan is filed. Squawk three-two-zero-zero.

PILOT: Squawk three-two-zero-zero, OE-CMV.
