Part 7: Vacating the Runway and Transition to Ground

Ground frequency is typically listed on the chart (e.g., 121.4 or 121.4 MHz) and is always provided by Tower before you leave their frequency.

Your initial call to Ground is:

"[Station] Ground, [Callsign], runway [number] vacated, request taxi to [parking area/gate/apron]."

Or, if already cleared:

"[Station] Ground, [Callsign], vacated taxiway [letter], request taxi to parking."

Ground will give you a taxi route using taxiway letters and sometimes landmarks. Write down the route, read it back, and follow it carefully.

PILOT: Taxi Alpha Charlie stand zero-four, QNH one zero one two, F-ABCD.

ATC: F-ABCD, ROGER. Airfield traffic, Seneca taxiing to stand zero-four.

The pilot has read back the taxi route and stand number. They will now taxi via taxiways Alpha and Charlie to parking stand 04.
