Der Aero-Club Gotha e.V. is a non-profit flying club at the historic Gotha-Ost airfield in Germany. It operates its own flight school, focusing on training ultralight aircraft pilots. Requirements include a minimum age of 16 and a valid aviation medical certificate (LAPL). The curriculum covers theoretical topics such as air law, navigation, meteorology, technology, radio communications, human performance, and pyrotechnics related to rescue systems for ultralight aircraft. Practical training is conducted on three-axis ultralight aircraft and includes at least 30 flight hours with solo and cross-country flights. Successful participants earn the Sport Pilot License (SPL) for ultralight aircraft. The club maintains a fleet with types such as Aeroprakt A-22LS, A-32, and formerly Comco Ikarus C-42. It supports members with aircraft availability, without requiring an own aircraft. The home airfield is EDEG Gotha. Other offerings include introductory flights, flight vouchers, and one-day pilot experiences. The club promotes aviation as a fascinating hobby with a traditional and supportive flying culture maintained by experienced volunteer flight instructors.
Contact is possible by phone and email. The club is active at local events and provides membership applications for download online.
