The Aero-Club Odenwald, Michelstadt e.V. operates the Michelstadt airfield located in the scenic Odenwald region, featuring a 604 x 15 m asphalt runway equipped for night operations enabling year-round flights. Aircraft types accommodated range from single-engine and multi-engine piston planes to ultralights, helicopters, motor gliders, hang gliders, and powered paragliders. The club supports model flying activities on designated days and maintains a specialized maintenance facility for American-certified aircraft.
The club runs one of the largest flying clubs in South Hesse with about 100 active pilots and an approved flight school (ATO) offering training for Light Aircraft Pilot License (LAPL) and Private Pilot License (PPL) for piston engine aircraft under Visual Flight Rules (day and night). Training includes theoretical and practical instruction, radio communication certificates in German or English, and options to extend qualifications to multi-engine and turbine-powered aircraft. The airfield also recently inaugurated a new aircraft hangar housing up to seven additional aircraft, reflecting growth and commitment to infrastructure.
Facilities include a welcoming restaurant with a sunny terrace and playground, ideal for visitors and aviation enthusiasts experiencing live flight operations. Membership in the club offers extensive opportunities for pilot training, flying, and community engagement within a non-commercial framework emphasizing volunteer involvement and cost advantages.
