Approach minimums

29 viewsSep 28, 2026

Every instrument approach has minimums: how low you may go, and how far you must see. You see the decision altitude on an ILS, the minimum descent altitude on a non-precision approach, and the visibility that comes with them.

What you learn

  • Tell a decision altitude from a decision height
  • Go around at the DA without the required visual reference
  • Level off at the MDA and go around at the missed approach point
  • Give the CAT I ILS minimums: 200 ft and 550 m RVR
