
Flugplatz Schänis is the Swiss competence center for gliding, offering comprehensive training from basic instruction to advanced alpine gliding performance. The flight school provides flexible basic training, self-launcher training on motorized gliders, and motor flight training with the world's first certified electric aircraft. The modern fleet ranges from vintage aircraft to high-performance gliders and electric planes. Around 30 experienced flight instructors support students and pilots in both theory and practice. The airfield features a paved runway and operates year-round, weather permitting.
Special support programs for young pilots include reduced pricing, junior programs, and extensive continuing education opportunities. Several active clubs and associations are based at the airfield, including the Segelfluggruppe Lägern, Swiss Aerobatic Gliding Association, Oldtimer Club, and others. Passenger flights are offered with gliders, motor gliders, and powered aircraft. Training also includes online theory courses and informational webinars.
