Stall and spin in the turn

0 viewsOct 7, 2026

A turn raises the stall speed, and the classic glider spin starts in one: low in a thermal or on the turn onto final. Why bank costs stall margin, how crossed controls stall the inner wing first, and how to recover.

What you learn

  • Work out the stall speed in a turn: × √ load factor
  • Recognise the crossed-control turn onto final before it bites
  • Fly base to final with a shallow bank and speed in hand
  • Recover from a spin: rudder, ailerons central, stick forward
  • Catch a skid early with the yaw string
