Subchapter 9.8 – Complete Emergency Scenario: Communication Failure with Weather

You have been flying for 20 minutes on this heading without radio contact. You estimate your position is now 50 kilometers southwest of Zurich (you have drifted south of your cleared route, but you are safe from the weather). Your fuel is still adequate.

Your heading 270° will take you south of the aerodrome. You need to return to Zurich.

You turn right to a heading of 030° to intercept the Zurich VOR from the southwest. You descend to Flight Level 90 to make a visual approach if the weather permits.

Zurich Approach is tracking your radar blip (squawk 7600). They are preparing for your arrival. ATC will have cleared other traffic away from your approach path.
