Final Study Tips for the ECQB Examination

1. Memorize the phonetic alphabet and number pronunciation rules. These are tested extensively. Know how to pronounce every letter and every number correctly.

2. Learn the complete procedure word list by heart. Not just the definitions, but when to use each one. Practice writing them down quickly.

3. Practice readbacks under time pressure. Ask a friend to give you a clearance rapidly, and practice readback. Time yourself.

4. Understand the difference between cleared, approved, and expect. These are tested frequently. Know the implications of each.

5. Study the mandatory readback items list:

Altitude assignments
Heading assignments
Speed assignments
Runway assignments
Approach clearances
Hold-short instructions
Runway crossing clearances

6. Recognize trap questions about wind, temperature, and time. These are PROVIDED FOR INFORMATION and are NOT read back (unless asked).

7. Practice frequency changes and initial contact calls. Know the exact format: station name, your callsign, aircraft type, altitude, position (if en-route), and intention.

8. Study the 10 common errors in this section. Examiners love these. You will definitely see similar questions on your exam.

9. Understand the logic behind every rule. Don't just memorize; understand why ATC requires certain readbacks. This helps you remember and apply the rules correctly.

10. Take practice exams and review every mistake. Identify your weak areas and focus on them. The ECQB exam is challenging; preparation is essential.
