Initial Contact on the New Frequency

You have switched to the Departure or Approach frequency. Now you must establish radio contact with that controller. This is a new initial call, so it follows the same structure as any initial call on a new frequency:
  1. Station callsign /strong> – "Vienna Departure," "Linz Radar " etc.
  2. Your aircraft callsign
  3. Your position – or a brief report of your status as a departing aircraft
  4. Your altitude – current altitude or assigned altitude
  5. Your intention – implicitly understood as "climbing to assigned altitude" or a specific request
For a departing aircraft, the initial contact on Departure is typically:

"[Station], callsign , [position], [altitude], climbing [to assigned altitude]."

Or, simplified for clarity:

"[Station], callsign , departing [aerodrome name], [altitude]."

The word "departing" immediately tells the new controller that you have just left the departure aerodrome, you are climbing, and you are transitioning to their airspace.
