Practical Scenarios: Putting It Together

Step 2: Approach and Circuit (Conducting visual approach)

You continue inbound, descending to circuit height. You position yourself on a long final or, if appropriate, on a wide base leg. As you turn onto final (1-2 miles from the runway, aligned with the runway centerline), you transmit:

"Wels Radio, D-EFGH, final runway 27."

The operator may acknowledge with "ROGER" or may provide updated wind. You continue your descent and landing checklist.

If you hear no other aircraft, you may be alone. If you hear another call on frequency, you listen and adjust your approach accordingly. For example, if you hear "Wels Radio, OE-XYZ, holding point runway 27, ready for departure," you know someone is waiting to depart. You descend normally and land. That aircraft will wait for you to clear the runway.
