Aeroclub Elbe Weser Karlshöfen e. V. operates the Karlshöfen airfield (ICAO: EDWK) near Gnarrenburg, Germany. Founded in 1971, this private aeroclub offers comprehensive flight training focused on European EASA-compliant licenses: Light Aircraft Pilot Licence (LAPL) and Private Pilot Licence (PPL). Practical training is conducted on a fleet of modern, instrument-equipped single-engine piston aircraft models including Robin DR400, multiple Cessna 150/172 variants, and Piper PA28 variants. Theoretical instruction covers subjects such as aviation law, human performance, meteorology, communication, flight principles, operational procedures, aircraft knowledge, performance and planning, and navigation.
The club also provides radio communication courses in German and English leading to BZF I, BZF II, and AZF (general flight radio license) certificates, critical for private pilot licensing and international flying. Optional night flight training under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) is available in the winter months. Membership in the club is required to start flight training.
Karlshöfen airfield is a private special landing site (PPR) known for its hospitality and popularity among visiting pilots and aviation enthusiasts.
The aeroclub maintains an active community with over 180 members and offers membership flights and charter on its aircraft fleet.
