Squawk 7700

EquipmentProcedures

General emergency

The transponder code for a general emergency. It sets off an alert on every radar screen that sees you, so controllers know you need help even before you have said a word.

Set it when you declare a Mayday, unless ATC has already given you a code and asks you to keep it. Memory aid: “seven-seven, going to heaven”.
